MAX3485EESA+T 1/1 Transceiver Half RS422, RS485

The MAX3485EESA+T from Analog Devices (formerly Maxim Integrated) is a high-performance, 3.3V-powered, ±15kV ESD-protected RS-485/RS-422 transceiver housed in a compact 8-pin SOIC package. Engineered for robust industrial communication, this device operates from a single +3.3V supply without requiring a charge pump, making it highly efficient. It features a half-duplex communication mode, ensuring data can be transmitted and received, albeit not simultaneously, on a single pair of differential lines. The transceiver supports a guaranteed data rate of up to 12Mbps, which is essential for high-speed data transmission in modern control systems.

A key feature is its enhanced ESD protection, which safeguards the RS-485 I/O pins to ±15kV (Human Body Model), ±8kV (IEC 1000-4-2 Contact Discharge), and ±15kV (IEC 1000-4-2 Air-Gap Discharge), providing exceptional resilience in harsh electrical environments. The transceiver also includes a 2nA low-current shutdown mode for power conservation, a -7V to +12V common-mode input voltage range for noise immunity, and industry-standard 75176 pinout for easy design integration. It is designed to be interoperable with +5V logic systems, and its drivers are short-circuit current limited and protected by thermal shutdown circuitry. The receiver input features a fail-safe function that ensures a logic-high output if the input is open, maintaining system stability. The "T" suffix indicates that the device is supplied in a tape and reel format, ideal for automated surface-mount assembly processes in high-volume manufacturing.
