AD5242BRZ10 digital potentiometer 10k Ohm 2 Circuit 256 Taps I²C Interface

The AD5242BRZ10 from Analog Devices is a dual-channel, 256-position, I²C-compatible digital potentiometer designed to replace mechanical potentiometers and trimmers in precision analog circuits. Housed in a 16-pin SOIC package, it features a 10 kΩ end-to-end resistance per channel with a tight ±30% tolerance and an exceptionally low 30 ppm/°C temperature coefficient, ensuring stable performance across its wide -40°C to +105°C industrial temperature range. Operating from a single 2.7 V to 5.5 V supply (or dual ±2.7 V supplies), it supports a 400 kHz I²C interface with two programmable address pins, allowing up to four devices to share the same bus. The device includes two auxiliary logic outputs that can be used to control external switches or LEDs, and features a power-on reset (POR) function that sets the wiper to the mid-scale position (128) upon startup, providing predictable initial conditions for system calibration.

AD5242BRZ10 variable resistor Applications

● Instrumentation & Calibration: Programmable gain and offset adjustment in op-amp circuits, data acquisition systems, and test equipment.

● Audio & Video Control: Volume control, tone adjustment, and contrast/brightness setting in professional and consumer multimedia devices.

● Industrial Automation: Sensor calibration, setpoint adjustment, and parameter tuning in PLCs and process control systems.

● Communications Systems: Variable attenuation and impedance matching in RF and baseband signal chains.

● Mechanical Potentiometer Replacement: Enables remote or software-based adjustment in applications where manual trimmers are impractical.

Alternative digital potentiometer Models

1. AD5242BRUZ10 (Analog Devices): A pin-compatible variant in a smaller 16-lead TSSOP package for space-constrained PCB designs.

2. MCP4441-104E/ML (Microchip): A 10 kΩ quad-channel digital pot with I²C interface and non-volatile memory (EEPROM) to retain wiper settings after power-off.

3. MAX5486EUD+ (Maxim Integrated): A dual 10 kΩ digital potentiometer with a similar 256-tap resolution and a 2-wire serial interface for precision applications.

4. CAT5114VI-10-GT3 (onsemi): A single-channel 10 kΩ digital pot with an up/down interface, offering a simpler control scheme for basic adjustment tasks.
