ADM3202ARNZ-REEL7 RS-232 transceiver 16-SOIC

The ADM3202ARNZ-REEL7, manufactured by Analog Devices, is a high-speed, low-power dual-channel RS-232 transceiver designed for 3.3V single-supply operation, integrating two drivers and two receivers in a compact 16-pin SOIC package with tape-and-reel packaging for automated assembly. It meets EIA-232E and CCITT V.28 standards, supporting data rates up to 460 kbps, and operates reliably across a temperature range of -40°C to 85°C, making it suitable for industrial, consumer, and portable electronic systems. Built as an upgraded alternative to legacy devices like MAX3222/32 and LTC1385, it features an integrated charge pump that eliminates the need for external ±12V power supplies, simplifying system design and reducing component count.

This transceiver operates over a wide supply voltage range of 3V to 5.5V, with a typical quiescent current of 1mA and ultra-low power consumption in shutdown mode (less than 1μA), ideal for battery-powered devices. It incorporates ESD protection on all RS-232 pins, meeting IEC 1000-4-2 standards with ±8kV contact discharge and ±15kV air gap discharge, enhancing durability in harsh environments. The device requires only four external 0.1μF charge pump capacitors to generate the required RS-232 voltage levels, supports full-duplex communication, and offers receiver hysteresis of 400mV to improve noise immunity.

Alternative RS-232 transceivers

● MAX3232EIDR (Texas Instruments): A 3.3V-powered dual-channel RS-232 transceiver in SOIC-16 package, offering 1Mbps data rate and enhanced ESD protection for industrial applications.

● ST3232EBDR (STMicroelectronics): A low-voltage RS-232 transceiver with 2.7V to 5.5V supply range, SOIC-16 packaging, and high noise immunity for cost-sensitive designs.

● SP3232EBEY-L (Maxim Integrated): A high-speed RS-232 transceiver supporting 1Mbps data rate, featuring low power consumption and SOIC-16 package for portable and industrial use.

● ADM3252EARUZ (Analog Devices): An isolated RS-232 transceiver with integrated DC-DC converter, offering 2.5kVrms isolation and SOIC-16 package for industrial communication systems.
