CS42L42-CWZR Audio Codec Chip Overview

The CS42L42-CWZR is a low-power, high-performance audio codec designed by Cirrus Logic for portable and embedded audio applications. It integrates a 24-bit stereo DAC (114 dB SNR) and a 24-bit mono ADC (114 dB SNR), supporting sampling rates from 8 kHz to 192 kHz for high-fidelity audio playback and recording. The device features a Class-H headphone amplifier with 2x35 mW output power (30Ω load) and four-stage power regulation, enabling efficient battery-powered operation. It supports MIPI SoundWire®, I²C, I²S, and TDM interfaces for flexible connectivity, along with S/PDIF transmission for digital audio output. The codec includes programmable sample rate converters (SRCs) for asynchronous audio processing and a 32-bit parametric equalizer for audio enhancement. Additional features include OMTP/AHJ headset detection, microphone short-circuit detection with ADC auto-mute, and sidetone mixing. Powered by 1.2V/1.8V analog and digital supplies, it operates efficiently across -40°C to +85°C industrial temperature ranges.
