KSZ8895MQXI Ethernet Switch IC 10/100 Base-T/TX I²C SPI Interface

The KSZ8895MQXI is a highly integrated, enterprise-grade 5-port Gigabit Ethernet switch processor designed by Microchip Technology to seamlessly bridge high-speed and low-speed networks within space-constrained embedded systems. The chip incorporates two 10/100/1000Mbps Gigabit ports and three 10/100Mbps Fast Ethernet ports, complete with their respective PHY transceivers, onto a single monolithic die. This high-density System-on-Chip (SoC) solution eliminates the need for external MAC or PHY components, dramatically simplifying PCB layout design, lowering overall BOM costs, and shrinking the physical footprint for advanced industrial control, enterprise connectivity, and smart gateway applications.

KSZ8895MQXI embedded Ethernet controller Specifications

Performance-wise, the KSZ8895MQXI offers highly versatile processor interface options—including MII, RMII, and RGMII—ensuring seamless communication with a wide array of host microcontrollers and SoCs. The switch core utilizes an efficient, non-blocking wire-speed switching architecture equipped with ample internal packet buffer memory to prevent data loss during severe network congestion. It supports advanced Layer 2 bridging features such as 802.1Q VLAN tagging, port-based prioritization, and strict priority queues to optimize Quality of Service (QoS) for time-sensitive traffic.

Alternative switch IC Models

● RTL8305MB (Realtek): A highly cost-effective 5-port Gigabit Ethernet switch controller widely used in consumer routers, though it lacks the deep industrial-grade VLAN features of the KSZ8895.

● AR8035 (Qualcomm/Atheros): A high-performance, ultra-low-power single-port Gigabit PHY requiring multiple chips to match the KSZ8895’s multi-port integration.

● DP83867IR (Texas Instruments): A robust single-port Gigabit PHY offering flexible media interfaces, but it operates strictly as a standalone physical layer transceiver rather than an integrated switch.

● LAN9500A (Microchip): A USB-to-Fast Ethernet controller suitable for adding basic single-port network connectivity, completely lacking the internal multi-port switching architecture of the KSZ8895.
