SG3525AN Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) Controller

The SG3525AN is a high-performance voltage-mode PWM controller designed for switching power supplies, including AC-DC and DC-DC converters, inverters, and welding machines.  Manufactured by STMicroelectronics, this 16-pin DIP device operates across an 8V to 35V input voltage range and supports oscillator frequencies from 100Hz to 500kHz.  Its core features include a precision ±1% internal 5.1V reference voltage, eliminating the need for external resistors, and a totem-pole output stage capable of sourcing/sinking over 200mA with "NOR" logic (low output in OFF state).  

The chip integrates advanced protection mechanisms such as input undervoltage lockout with 500mV hysteresis, latching PWM to prevent multiple pulses, and pulse-by-pulse shutdown for instantaneous fault response.  A single resistor between the CT and Discharge pins enables adjustable dead-time control, while the built-in soft-start circuit requires only an external timing capacitor.  Applications span industrial power supplies, battery chargers, and motor drives, where reliability and efficiency are critical.
