Housed in a 56-pin SSOP package, this IC can directly drive up to 32 segment lines (in 4 backplane configuration) or 40 segment lines (in 3 backplane configuration), making it highly versatile for generating custom alphanumeric or symbolic displays. Its integrated design includes all necessary timing generation, significantly reducing microprocessor overhead and external component count in embedded systems requiring clear, low-power visual interfaces.

This driver features a wide LCD supply voltage range (2.5V to 6.0V) and a low operating current, making it ideal for battery-powered applications. It includes an internal oscillator requiring only a single external resistor for frequency setting, and it can also be synchronized to an external clock source. The device supports multiple display modes (static, 2, 3, or 4 backplane multiplexing) and incorporates a 40×4-bit display data RAM, allowing for easy data management.
