The BQ40Z80RSMT by Texas Instruments is a fully integrated multi‑function battery management IC designed for 2‑ to 6‑series cell Li‑ion, Li‑polymer, and LiFePO4 battery packs, delivering precision gas gauging, robust protection, and secure authentication in a compact 4mm×4mm 32‑pin VQFN package. Operating from a 2.2V to 32V supply and supporting 500mAh to 65,000mAh battery capacities, it leverages TI’s patented next‑generation Impedance Track™ algorithm to accurately monitor available charge, voltage, current, and temperature, while communicating with host systems via an SMBus v1.1 interface. This industrial‑grade IC (-40°C to +85°C) integrates all monitoring, protection, and authentication functions, serving as a compact, reliable, and cost‑effective solution for smart battery pack designs.

This IC integrates comprehensive software‑based 1st‑ and 2nd‑level safety protection against overvoltage, undervoltage, overcurrent, short‑circuit, overload, and overtemperature faults, plus support for TURBO Mode 2.0/Intel DBPTv2 to report max power/current to hosts. It offers ECC or SHA‑1 authentication with secure key memory for genuine battery identification, eight multi‑function configurable pins, and both internal/external cell balancing, ensuring flexibility and security.
