The INA240A1DR is a Texas Instruments bidirectional current-sense amplifier that measures voltage drops across a shunt resistor over a wide -4 V to 80 V common-mode range, independent of its own 2.7 V to 5.5 V supply, and is delivered in an 8-pin SOIC package rated for -40 C to 125 C operation with 2500 pieces per large tape-and-reel carrier . As the A1 gain variant of the INA240 family, it provides a fixed 20 V/V gain, uses a zero-drift architecture that allows full-scale sensing down to a 10 mV shunt drop, and draws a maximum quiescent current of 2.4 mA, making it a robust analog front end for precision current measurement in motor drives, power supplies, battery systems, and industrial control boards . The negative common-mode capability lets the device ride below ground to handle the flyback period of inductive loads, while the voltage-output stage feeds directly into an ADC or comparator without extra conditioning circuitry.

The INA240A1DR is widely used for inline, high-side, and low-side current sensing in three-phase brushless DC motor drives, H-bridge and solenoid or valve control, DC/DC and AC/DC power-supply feedback loops, battery-management charging and discharging monitoring, actuator and pressure-regulator control, and telecommunication equipment . In Class-D audio subsystems it serves as a high-dynamic-range speaker-current sensor for SmartAmp speaker-parameter extraction and overcurrent protection, while its clean PWM-step response makes it a natural fit for window-comparator overcurrent alarms and real-time diagnostic loops . Engineers also deploy it in electric-vehicle auxiliary modules, industrial PLC analog input cards, and test fixtures where sustained accuracy under high dV/dt transients is a hard requirement rather than a nice-to-have .
