UCC28710DR Primary-Side Regulation (PSR) PWM Controller

The UCC28710DR is a high-efficiency, primary-side regulated (PSR) PWM controller from Texas Instruments, engineered for isolated AC/DC flyback converters without optocouplers. Housed in a compact 7-pin SOIC surface-mount package (tape-and-reel), it operates from a wide 9V to 35V supply voltage and supports an industrial temperature range of -40°C to +125°C. Part of the UCC2871x family, it integrates a 700V high-voltage startup switch to minimize standby power and simplify offline power supply designs, while its programmable cable compensation enables flexible output voltage tuning across line and load variations.

Key Features & Applications

This controller delivers constant-voltage (CV) and constant-current (CC) regulation with ±5% accuracy and operates in discontinuous conduction mode (DCM) with quasi-resonant valley switching to reduce switching losses and EMI. It features a maximum 100kHz switching frequency (supporting high power density), frequency jitter for simplified EMI compliance, and a clamped gate-drive output for robust MOSFET control. 

Integrated protections include overcurrent, input undervoltage, output overvoltage, and internal overtemperature protection, along with leading-edge blanking and soft-start to enhance system reliability. Ideal for 5W–30W USB-compliant adapters/chargers, consumer electronics power supplies, LED drivers, and industrial power solutions, it eliminates optocoupler and secondary-side feedback circuitry, reducing BOM cost and PCB complexity.
