UCC28712DR CV and CC flyback power supply controller 680Hz ~ 100kHz 7-SOIC

The UCC28712DR from TI is a constant-voltage (CV) and constant-current (CC) flyback power supply controller that leverages primary-side regulation (PSR) to eliminate the need for an optocoupler, significantly reducing system cost and improving reliability . This device processes feedback information directly from the auxiliary flyback winding, delivering precise output regulation of ±5% across line and load variations . Housed in a compact 7-pin SOIC package, the controller integrates a 700-V start-up switch and operates over a wide VDD range of 9V to 35V, supporting an industrial temperature range from -40°C to 125°C .

The UCC28712DR achieves less than 10 mW of no-load standby power, meeting stringent energy-efficiency standards . It operates in discontinuous conduction mode (DCM) with valley-switching to minimize switching losses, while combining frequency modulation (FM) and amplitude modulation (AM) to maintain high efficiency across all load ranges . Key specifications include a maximum switching frequency of 100 kHz, a 21V start-up voltage, and a 25 mA drive capability for external MOSFETs . The chip integrates comprehensive protection features including overvoltage, current limiting, and low-line protection, plus an NTC resistor interface for remote temperature sensing with fixed cable compensation .

Alternative Replacements

● The UCC28712D, the tube-packaged version of the same device with identical electrical specifications for low-volume prototyping

● The UCC28713D, offering similar performance with different fixed cable compensation levels for alternative cable drop requirements

● The STCH03LTR from STMicroelectronics, a primary-side PWM controller with similar no-load power and 100 kHz switching for low-power adapters

● The UCC28730DR, a higher-efficiency variant with advanced valley-switching for ultra-low standby applications in the same package
