LMR14030SDDAR synchronous step-down DC-DC converter

The LMLMR14030SDDAR is a high-voltage, high-efficiency synchronous step-down (buck) DC-DC converter capable of delivering up to 3.5A of continuous output current.  This advanced power management IC operates over an exceptionally wide input voltage range of 4V to 40V, making it ideally suited for industrial, automotive, and telecommunications applications that must withstand significant voltage fluctuations and transient conditions.  Housed in a thermally enhanced 8-pin SO PowerPAD package, the device integrates a high-side MOSFET and a low-side MOSFET to create a synchronous rectification topology that achieves up to 95% efficiency.  The LMR14030 employs a constant-frequency peak current mode control scheme with internal compensation, which simplifies design while providing excellent transient response and stability across a wide range of operating conditions.  Its robust feature set, including programmable soft-start, precision enable, and comprehensive protection circuitry, makes it a reliable choice for powering FPGAs, ASICs, processors, and other core system components in demanding environments.

Key Features

This synchronous buck converter operates at a fixed switching frequency of 600 kHz (with a 400 kHz version also available), which can be synchronized to an external clock to minimize noise interference in sensitive applications.  It features a low 25μA shutdown current and a 55μA quiescent current during light load operation, significantly enhancing efficiency across the full load range.  The device incorporates a wide range of protection features, including cycle-by-cycle current limiting, thermal shutdown, and hiccup-mode short-circuit protection, ensuring robust operation under fault conditions.  The internal compensation network reduces external component count, while the programmable soft-start function prevents inrush current during startup.  The LMR14030 also provides a power-good indicator for system sequencing and monitoring, and its high level of integration results in a compact overall solution footprint, which is critical for space-constrained applications.
