Texas Instruments SN74GTL2014PWR 16-Bit GTLP to LVTTL Universal Bus Transceiver

The Texas Instruments SN74GTL2014PWR is a high-performance 16-bit universal bus transceiver designed to interface between GTLP (Gunning Transceiver Logic Plus) and LVTTL (Low-Voltage TTL) logic levels, enabling seamless communication in mixed-voltage systems. Housed in a compact 28-pin TSSOP (PW) package, the device operates at a supply voltage range of 3.0V to 3.6V for LVTTL and supports GTLP signaling with a nominal termination voltage (VREF) of 1.5V. It features a wide operating temperature range of -40°C to +85°C, ensuring reliability in industrial and automotive environments. With integrated edge-rate control and Ioff circuitry, it prevents current backflow during power-down, making it suitable for hot-swap and live-insertion applications.

Features

The SN74GTL2014PWR offers advanced signal integrity with adjustable edge-rate control to minimize noise and overshoot in high-speed backplane or bus applications. It supports bidirectional data flow with 3.3V LVTTL ports and 1.5V GTLP ports, achieving data rates up to 100 MHz. The device includes built-in ESD protection (up to 2 kV HBM) and a low-power standby mode, reducing idle current consumption. Its open-drain GTLP outputs allow for wired-OR configurations, while the LVTTL side provides robust drive strength (±24 mA) for interfacing with legacy systems. Additional features include fail-safe biasing on inputs and thermal shutdown protection, enhancing system robustness in demanding conditions.

Applications

This transceiver chip is ideal for bridging high-performance processors or ASICs using GTLP signaling with LVTTL-based peripherals in communication infrastructure, such as routers, switches, and base stations. It is widely used in enterprise servers, storage systems, and industrial automation equipment requiring voltage-level translation across backplanes or distributed bus architectures. The SN74GTL2014PWR also suits automotive infotainment systems, test and measurement instruments, and embedded computing platforms where reliable mixed-voltage interfacing and signal integrity are critical.

Selection Advantages of SN74GTL2014PWR

Choosing the SN74GTL2014PWR ensures compatibility with high-speed GTLP standards while simplifying design integration through its bidirectional translation capability and minimal external components. Its edge-rate control and ESD protection mitigate signal degradation risks, reducing the need for additional buffering or filtering. The device's low static power consumption and robust thermal performance align with energy-efficient and high-reliability system requirements. Texas Instruments' rigorous quality standards and extended product lifecycle support further make it a preferred solution for mission-critical industrial, automotive, and telecommunications applications.
