TPS53353DQPR buck converter, 15A step-down regulator with MOSFETs Overview

The TPS53353DQPR is a high-efficiency, synchronous buck converter with integrated MOSFETs from Texas Instruments, designed for high-current, point-of-load (POL) power supply applications. Operating over an input voltage range of 4.5V to 28V, this step-down DC/DC converter delivers an adjustable output voltage from 0.6V to 5.5V with a continuous output current of up to 15A, making it ideal for servers, networking equipment, FPGAs, and ASIC power systems. The device utilizes D-CAP3™ mode control architecture, providing fast transient response, low output ripple, and ease of compensation without requiring external components, simplifying design and reducing board space.

One of the key advantages of the TPS53353DQPR is its high efficiency (up to 95%), achieved through low RDS(on) integrated power MOSFETs (12mΩ/8mΩ for high-side/low-side) and adaptive gate drive optimization. The converter supports programmable switching frequencies (200kHz to 1.6MHz), allowing engineers to optimize performance for efficiency or component size. Additional features include pre-biased startup, adjustable soft-start, and power-good monitoring, ensuring safe operation in complex power sequencing applications. The device also incorporates overcurrent protection (OCP), overvoltage protection (OVP), and thermal shutdown, enhancing system reliability in demanding environments.

Packaged in a thermally enhanced 5mm × 6mm, 24-pin VQFN (DQPR), the TPS53353DQPR offers excellent thermal dissipation and compact footprint for high-density PCB designs. Its -40°C to +125°C operating temperature range ensures robust performance in industrial and automotive applications. Texas Instruments provides comprehensive design support, including SPICE models, evaluation modules, and WEBENCH® Power Designer tools, enabling quick integration into power supply architectures.
