ULN2003ADR - 7 Channel Darlington transistor array IC, Relay driver circuit

The ULN2003ADR from Texas Instruments is a high-voltage, high-current Darlington transistor array containing seven NPN Darlington pairs with common emitters.  Each channel can handle up to 500mA of continuous current and withstand peak currents of 600mA, making it ideal for driving inductive loads like relays, solenoids, and stepper motors.  With an integrated suppression diode for each output, it provides reliable protection against voltage spikes generated by inductive loads.  The device operates across a wide voltage range (3V to 50V) and is compatible with both TTL and CMOS logic levels.

ULN2003ADR Key Features

● High Current Capability: 500mA continuous current per channel

● Integrated Suppression Diodes: Eliminates need for external flyback diodes

● Wide Voltage Range: 3V to 50V input/output compatibility

● TTL/CMOS Compatible Inputs: Works with 5V logic and higher voltage systems

● Thermal Protection: Built-in safeguards against overheating

Applications

Perfect for industrial control systems, automotive electronics, and consumer appliances where reliable switching of inductive loads is required.  Commonly used in relay drivers, lamp drivers, display drivers (LED), and stepper motor controllers.

Why Choose ULN2003ADR?

● Proven Reliability: Industry-standard design with decades of field validation

● Simplified Design: Integrated components reduce external part count

● Cost-Effective Solution: Provides seven channels in a single package

● Robust Protection: Handles inductive kickback without additional circuitry

Alternative Stepper motor driver IC Models

● ULN2004ADR: Higher input voltage version (50V) with similar characteristics

● ULN2803A: 8-channel version for expanded applications

● MC1413B: Motorola equivalent with slightly different pinout

TD62083APG: Toshiba equivalent with enhanced thermal characteristics
